The crash took place around 2:30 p.m., Monday, March 4, when 79-year-old Theodore Shear, of Bridgewater, and 59-year-old Douglas Gabel, of Monroe, were traveling in opposite directions on South Main Street, said Newtown Police Lt. Aaron Bahamonde.
At some point, Shear, in an Acura MDX, attempted to turn left in the driveway of King’s Breakfast & Lunch at 271 South Main Street (Route 25) in front of Gabel's Acura MDX Touring, the police report showed.
In an effort to avoid being hit, Gabel then turned abruptly to the right and into the driveway of the restaurant
Gabel's vehicle then continued through the parking lot of Kings Restaurant before crashing through the west exterior wall on the side of the building, the report said.
The vehicle also hit a pedestrian who was sitting in a chair with her back to the vehicle.
Although shaken up, no injuries were reported to the pedestrian, or either driver or passengers.
Shear was given a ticket for failure to grant right of way at driveway.
